The mission of the program includes strategies designed to remove the barriers that prevent full participation by minorities in SMET fields. They include:

• strengthening undergraduate research education, with emphasis on partnerships with local graduate research centers, and national and federal laboratories
• increasing underrepresented SMET baccalaureate degree production
• providing opportunities for students to improve their qualification and enhance their preparation for graduate studies in SMET field
